"Gods In Alabama" by Joshilyn Jackson

Reading genres are a personal choice.  What I like to read may not suit your taste. And vice versa.  That’s why I am doing this review on a book that I could not finish.  As a matter of fact, I was listening to the first disc of the audiobook and could not get past track #8.  I don’t consider myself a prude, but there was so much foul language (including the “f” word and the “N” word) and fornicating that I just couldn’t listen anymore.  Which is a shame, because it sounded like a fun story, and the woman who reads it on the CD - Catherine Taber - has a sweet southern drawl that is easy to listen to.

The audiobook is “Gods in Alabama” by Joshilyn Jackson.  It was recommended by a patron who knew that I liked Janet Evanovich’s Stephanie Plum Series.  Arlene Fleet hails from Possett, Alabama and has moved up north to go to college.  She made three promises to God: she will never tell another lie; she will stop having sex with every man who crosses her path; and, she will NEVER, EVER go back to Possett.  Well you know what they say about never saying “never.”  In return, God will give her a small miracle - make sure no one ever finds the body she left there.  Ten years later, a twist of fate lands Arlene back in Possett (seems God broke His part of the deal - how ludicrous!) and her past is catching up to her.

That’s all I can tell you about the story since I didn’t listen to it.  But if you can tolerate the negatives I pointed out, then this might be quite entertaining.  Just let me know how it all turned out!
